Allergies

Well, it’s spring again. Although this is one of the most beautiful times of the year many people suffer with ear, nose and throat issues. Did you know chiropractic can sometimes help with these problems? Adjustments to the neck and even the ears can help free the buildup of mucous that causes the sinuses and ears to ‘clog up’. Adjustments to the neck can help with lymphatic drainage, and adjustments to the ears can open up the ear canals which can help with drainage of the ears and sinuses as well. While it doesn’t work for everyone, I have had very good success with these adjustments on patients. In addition, it is a relatively safe and conservative treatment.

Acupuncture is another form of treatment that can be very effective with controlling allergies. Various points on the body and the ears are stimulated either with the insertion of very fine needles, or by using a machine that has a probe which runs a small electrical current into the points. Stimulation of these points helps the body balance itself and thus not overreact to the allergens. You can also stimulate some of these points yourself. If you take your pointer fingers and drop down about 1 ½ inches below each eye just to the sides of your nose and push in you’ll find a depression. Gently massage these two points for 4 or 5 seconds. You can repeat this 2 or 3 times and you may notice your sinuses beginning to open up and/or drain.

Both adjustments and acupuncture are relatively safe and conservative treatments and thus should be considered for people suffering from the ravages of allergies.
