Moist Heat Therapy

Physiotherapy Rehab - Pain Management in Springfield MOMoist heat therapy is used to relax and sooth muscles and joints. Moist heat is used because it penetrates deeper into the muscles than traditional heating pads. As the muscles heat up, blood quickly rushes in and starts the healing process. Moist heat also increases blood flow and circulation. During moist heat therapy treatment the patient will lie on a table and the pads are applied for 20 minutes or less.

Ice Therapy

Ice therapy is used to reduce inflammation, reduce muscle spasms and it also reduces pain by causing a numbing effect. During ice therapy the patient will lay on a table and ice packs are applied for 10 minutes or less.

Interferential Therapy

Interferential therapy helps increase localized blood flow which can improve healing by reducing swelling. This therapy produces electrical currents that pass through the affected area of the patient.  Interferential therapy is a deeper form of TENS.  It is a high frequency wave that penetrates the skin deeper therefore, less discomfort than TENS.

During interferential therapy you will relax on a cushioned table and have electrodes placed on the skin.  Controls of the electric current will be adjusted to your chosen comfort level.  The feeling of Interferential Therapy is similar to pulsating jets of a hot tub. This relaxing treatment is typically 10 minutes.

Intersegmental Traction

Intersegmental traction therapy helps re-establish the normal range of motion of the spine. It gently elongates the postural muscles of the spine in a comfortable manner that helps re-establish normal joint movement and mobility. Intersegmental traction patients lie face up on a table which has rollers beneath the surface. These rollers slowly move up and down the length of the spine. The roller has adjustments which can be increased or decreased for greater or lesser pressure. The rollers gently massage and vibrate from your cervical to lumbar spine. This is a wonderful 10-20 minute treatment.

Ultrasound Therapy

Ultrasound is sound wave therapy that passes through the skin. The sound waves relax the tissue, increase blood flow, break down scar tissue and improve pain management. Ultrasound can help decrease pain by reducing swelling. Ultrasound therapy patients will have gel applied to the skin, the ultrasound machine will penetrate sound waves evenly through your skin. This therapy is 10 minutes or less.
